An installation by BIG Bjarke Ingels Group at Fuorisalone
This installation translates that vision into an immersive experience, revealing the inner workings of the water network and offering a glimpse into the infrastructure that sustains daily life.
By exposing infrastructure that usually remains unseen, the installation highlights the journey of water, from its natural cycle to technological management. The arrangement of pipes creates two distinct spaces, offering visitors a sensory experience that connects them with the impact of water consumption.
More than an artistic display, this installation is a call to awareness. It emphasizes the balance between innovation and sustainability, showing how smart technology, like Roca Connect, can help shape a more efficient, responsible future. This blend of design and purpose transforms the installation into a meaningful exploration of the relationship between people, technology, and the environment, reinforcing Roca’s leadership in craftsmanship and sustainable living.
Every product we consume - food, clothing or everyday items - requires far more water than we realise. The water footprint measures the total amount of water used throughout a product's lifecycle.
It's not just the water we see and use every day, but also the unseen water required to grow, produce and transport the products we need.
Understanding the amount of water behind products enables informed choices. It’s not about giving them up, but about consuming more consciously.
In Europe, every person consumes an average of 144 litres of water daily, 80% in the bathroom. A family of four consumes around 460 litres of water a day. Small changes to our habits and choosing more efficient products can cut this by up to 60%, saving over 100,000 litres of water per year per family.
Every drop counts. Choosing smart solutions and being mindful of daily routines can have a considerable global impact.
A minute in the shower consumes 14 litres of wáter, yet the average shower lasts 11 minutes – the WHO recommends a 5-minute shower. With Roca's Smart Shower, you can use as little as 5 litres per minute. Combining a shorter shower with smart systems saves over 9,000 litres per person yearly; 36,000 litres for a family of four.
We can have a huge impact on the planet by making small choices in our daily lives.
On average, a person uses the toilet six times a day, which can mean 36 litres of water per day when using a traditional cistern.
With Roca dual-flush toilets, we can help reduce consumption by 16 litres per person per day, saving up to 5,840 litres per year per person, or 23, 360 litres for a family of four.
But saving water is not just about the amount of water we use; it is also about how we optimise its use. Smart toilets and smart flushing systems allow us to monitor our habits and adjust our water use more efficiently.
It’s not just our habits that lead to water waste – small, unnoticed faults can also contribute. A dripping faucet, for example, can waste up to 30 litres of water a day, or almost 11,000 litres a year.
This is where technology plays a key role. Roca Connect makes it possible to detect water loss in real time, alerting you to leaks or irregular use so that we can act immediately. Smart data management allows us to improve the maintenance of our installations and optimise water use, preventing thousands of litres from being wasted unnoticed.
Knowing more about our consumption is the first step to reducing it.
