Nestled in the heart of the Penedès wine region, Mastinell Cava & Hotel is more than a boutique hotel; it is an architectural marvel that celebrates the fusion of design and nature. Inspired by the region’s rich viticultural heritage, the 13-room hotel embodies the smooth integration of the natural landscape with modern architectural brilliance.

Roca’s collaboration with Mastinell enhances the immersive experience of this boutique hotel with innovative bathroom solutions that complement the hotel’s unique design approach.

In Harmony

Designed by architects Josep Juanpere and Lluís Escamis of GCA Architects, Mastinell Cava & Hotel boasts a unique architecture inspired by the horizontal stacking of cava bottles during the second fermentation process. This inspiration culminates in a spectacular trencadís roof that pays homage to Antoni Gaudí, the creator of this broken tile technique. The design ensures minimal visual impact on the surrounding vineyards, while showcasing the environment and creating a welcoming space both inside and out.

Other architectural elements throughout the hotel are inspired by the shapes of grapes and bubbles, which are intricately moulded into the roof, ceiling and floors of the building, as well as perforating the façades. These shapes not only draw visitors into the building, but also connect them to the immediate surroundings. Through its advanced structural technology, the building itself becomes a flexible element that can both contain and release spaces for different uses.

A Fusion of Nature and Modern Elegance

Inside, the hotel continues to draw inspiration from its natural surroundings. In the bedrooms, the sinuous lines of the building give way to smooth, curved ceilings that enhance the sense of space. Large, circular windows with geometric patterns allow natural light to flood the rooms, offering breathtaking views of the vineyards. The use of wood, glass and black accents creates a cohesive and stylish look that balances contemporary design with natural elements.

The architectural design extends seamlessly into the open-plan bathrooms, continuing the geometric and natural themes of the rooms. Roca’s involvement in this hotel exemplifies the company’s commitment to enhancing architectural spaces with innovative bathroom solutions. The products featured not only enhance the aesthetic appeal, but also integrate flawlessly with the hotel's design philosophy.

The evocative Thesis faucets, designed by Antonio Bullo, feature a modern and dynamic design with clean lines and minimalist shapes, adding elegance and style to the space. The historic graphite-coloured Bol washbasin, set on a wooden counter, and the architecturally shaped Happening WC further add to the sophisticated aesthetic of the rooms, reinforcing their connection to the overall architectural design of the hotel and its surroundings. These elements exemplify how modern design can blend harmoniously with traditional features to create spaces that are both functional and visually stunning.

Sustainability and Design Excellence

Sustainability and technological innovation are at the heart of Mastinell Cava & Hotel’s design philosophy. The building’s continuous, undulating roof shapes spaces without the need for internal walls, creating a fluid, open environment ideal for cross-ventilation. This design approach not only enhances the visual appeal, but also minimises the environmental footprint. The hotel's sustainable architecture includes features such as the collection and reuse of rainwater and a biomass boiler, exemplifying best practice in sustainable building. These elements ensure efficient energy use and water conservation, reinforcing the hotel's commitment to environmental responsibility.

Roca’s products also complement this sustainable ethos, using advanced materials and technologies to ensures durability and efficiency, contributing to the hotel's overall sustainability goals. The integration of local ceramic traditions with modern technology in the hotel's design reflects a strong emphasis on preserving cultural heritage while embracing innovation.
