The Bridge is a unique architectural project in Warsaw’s Plac Europejski district that merges past and present. Designed by the Dutch firm UN Studio in partnership with PolskoBelgijska Pracownia Architektury and Ghelamco, a leading investor and developer in Poland’s commercial sector, the Bridge is a soaring, 174-metre tall glass skyscraper that connects to the historic Bellona building, a former printing factory, and a protected monument.

Dutch firm UN Studio put sustainability front and centre in their design for The Bridge, which is certified BREEAM Excellent, WELL Gold and WELL Health Safety. The 40-floor building covers nearly 47,000 square-metres of office space with a café and co-working spaces on the ground floor, 280 underground parking spaces, and an inviting esplanade with open green spaces and electric charging stations. It is the first commercial property in Central and Eastern Europe to have received SmartScore and WiredScore certificates and it includes innovative technologies such as Signal OS, a smart operating system that connects to the buildings various systems for shared oversight on energy, waste and water management.

Roca meets the mark with sustainable bathroom solutions

UN Studio partnered with Roca in the design of The Bridge’s contemporary, mixed-use bathroom spaces that reflect the building’s defining architectural details. The shared bathrooms are designed with grey-stone tile walls and Access wall-hung toilets basins and grab bars for comfortable, modern style. The L-30-E electronic faucets were selected for their elegant modern form and their built-in water-saving features, which are ideal in high-volume spaces. The client office bathrooms include Loft-E faucets. Refined, minimal and timeless, the bathrooms are designed for longevity.

A contemporary transformation

The Bridge is a marker of the ongoing transformation of Warsaw, a city that has become one of Europe’s most dynamic contemporary capitals. The glass and metal skyscraper is balanced by its double-height public lobby that pairs wood panels and accents with pockets of greenery for warmth and vitality. This merges with the Bellona’s brick façade, neo-classical columns and cast iron stairwell, architectural details that provide an important reference point for the city’s historic past. This ‘bridge’ between past and present serves as both a solution for a contemporary, mixed-use urban office building and an example for future urban planning. Roca’s expertise with sustainability, heritage properties as well as with innovative architecture made them the ideal partner in this project.
