Roca’s W+W receives the WAN 2010 international prize in the Product category for its eco-sustainable value.
The WAN prizes recognise excellence in design and architecture projects that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability.
Barcelona, January 24, 2010.- Roca, the world leader in the definition of bathroom spaces, has received a new international recognition for W+W: the WAN AWARD 2010 in the Product category. The prizes, organised by the US-based portal World Architecture News, were awarded on January 17 in Munich in collaboration with the BAU international trade fair. This award is the seventh international distinction for W+W, which has already won important prizes like the Design+ Award 2009, received at the last edition of the ISH fair (Germany) for its innovative, sustainable design; the Product of the Year and Best Eco Product 2009 Prizes given by the prestigious FX magazine (United Kingdom); and the HTC Readers’ Prize awarded annually by the prestigious Wallpaper magazine within its Design Awards 2010.
W+W is the result of the work performed by Roca’s Innovation Lab in collaboration with the designers Gabriele and Oscar Buratti. Its innovative factor lies in the fusion in a single piece of the washbasin and toilet, two essential elements in any bathroom space. The concept underlying Roca’s W+W proposal combines design, innovation and sustainability in a single product. W+W reduces water consumption by up to 50% thanks to reusing the water from the basin for flushing the toilet, having previously been treated automatically inside the cistern. The WAN AWARDS, organised by World Architecture News, one of the foremost international online architecture magazines, are presented twice a year and acknowledge the most outstanding projects in the following areas: public healthcare buildings, urban design and commercial and residential buildings. The UIA (International Union of Architects) is associated with this initiative dedicated to “Excellence in Design” and designed to highlight the dynamism of the architectural profession all around the world.
