Central europe

Socioeconomic status:

Germany has reasserted itself as the economic engine of the euro zone — given the previously mentioned inequalities between markets — thanks to a rebound in domestic demand driven by renewed momentum in the labor market and strengthened levels of confidence. The housing sector is also in recovery. Switzerland has also regained momentum thanks to domestic demand, and Austria has begun to reap the fruits of its commitment to commercial diversification.

Business developments and prospects:

The Swiss market has remained fairly stable in 2013. Both Laufen and Similor maintain leading positions, with high local market shares. The German market has performed relatively well, especially in the second half, and the Group has maintained the favorable market share growth seen in recent years. In Austria we also maintain revenue levels despite overall market weakness and the effect of heavy snowstorms on business activity.
